Angela Price, wife of former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, has received a lot of attention recently for comments she made about the boxing controversy at the 2024 Olympics.

The controversy revolves around Italian boxer Angela Carini and Algerian Boxer Imane Khalif. The two had a match before the medal rounds where Carini voluntarily gave up just 46 seconds into the match. She said that she had never been hit so hard in her life and was clearly in a lot of distress as the event came to a close, with Imane being declared the winner, effectively by default. Things immediately blew up as Khalif came under attack as many believe that she is secretly a trans woman, born as a male. This is due to a test done in 2022 that supposedly proved that she had XY chromosomes, that of a typical biological male. The test was done in 2022 after she beat a Russian Boxer at the World Championships. She had already been tested before the match and the results were normal, but she was mysteriously tested again following her defeat of the Russian. The International Boxing Association president is notably Russian, and has been accused of being re-elected by the organization improperly, leading to several countries including the United States and UK to boycott the organization altogether.

The results of the test the supposedly proved Imane was a woman have never been made publicly available. All this is to say that there is no evidence that Imane is transgender. Unfortunately though, misinformation is very easy to disseminate through the internet.

That brings us to Angela Price, who had this to say about the situation.

«That saying 'common sense isn't very common these days'....a woman will never be able to compete at the same level as a man and I think it is heart breaking for these women born athletes, heartbreaking! do you, dress and act however you like but there are limits.»

This comment implies that Angela believes Imane is not a cis-gender woman and that she won the fight unfairly. Unfortunately, this is how many people see the situation despite any real evidence pointing to the fact that Imane is transgender. Even her opponent apologized for the controversy that was created by her decision to quit the fight. She admitted that she respects to IOC's decision to allow Imane to fight and that she was just upset because her dreams of winning an Olympic medal were dashed at a moment's notice.

"All this controversy makes me sad. I'm sorry for my opponent too. If the IOC said she can fight, I respect that decision."

When asked about why she did not shake Imane's hand after the match, Angela was apologetic again.

"It wasn't something I intended to do. Actually, I want to apologize to her and everyone else. I was angry because my Olympics had gone up in smoke. I don't have anything against Khalif. Actually, if I saw her again, I would embrace her."

Hopefully, the IOC will clear up this situation with a strong statement at some point during the games. Until then, speculation about this event will continue to grow.
