NHL Insider reveals Anaheim Ducks place legendary franchise player on trading block

Elliotte Friedman revealed today on his podcast 32 Thoughts that the Anaheim Ducks have placed one of their franchise players Cam Fowler on the trading block.

Cam Fowler who has played in 974 career games, all with Anaheim, is said to be on the trading block. Fowler was an NHL all-star in 2017, after being drafted by the Ducks in 2010 12th overall.

Fowler would have most likely played his 1,000 NHL game in the same uniform, and still could but this might be a blow to the franchise legend. Fowler played as one of the two top pairs at the blue line throughout his career.

Per Friedman, the Ducks have begun to have conversations with Fowler about a change which would include him moving on. Younger defenseman are on their way up taking over in the top pairing, which would make Fowler's role on the team unnecessary.

Fowler has in his contract a no move clause to 28 specific teams, leaving just four unknown teams as an option. He is said to be open to a trade.

Fowler's deal runs through the 2025-26 season at a $6.5 million cap hit. He would make for a good veteran defenseman for a team who needs that extra blue line help and push with a veteran in the locker room. In addition, the Ducks have room to retain some of his contract monies, which can sweeten that pot for other teams.

We will have to wait and see what happens with Cam Fowler, but there is no chance that we will not seen his name and jersey retired at the Honda Center one day.
