The Boston Bruins traded away one of their goaltenders this summer already, so could they be at risk of losing Jeremy Swayman too?

Last summer, Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins went to arbitration in a move that may have strained their relationship, but in 2024 they've avoided that route, signalling the good terms they are on. Perhaps that was short lived however as the two are not actively discussing a long-term contract extension, opening the door for another team to swoop in.

Now, TVA Sports of Montreal have made a shock suggestion that the Canadiens could do exactly that, and it makes plenty of sense;

"Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins can now receive a hostile offer from other National Hockey League teams, including the Montreal Canadiens,

NESN reported Saturday after the 5 p.m. deadline to request the involvement of an arbitrator in contract negotiations passed." - TVA Sports

According to the goalie, the arbitration process went badly for Swayman and wouldn't like to relive that experience.

He has elected to forego arbitration for that experience alone, hearing his own team speak negatively about him.

"I'm trying very hard not to panic about the Bruins trading Swayman's two best friends and then potentially pissing him off at the contract table AGAIN!" - Pete Blackburn

It's not quite that simple however, as Swayman would have to elect to move to the Montreal Canadiens, but after the team moved Linus Ullmark, absolutely anything could be on the table at this point. Now, one insider has suggested how much money it would take for an offersheet, and it's likely a number that few NHL teams would even consider;

"According to 98.5 The Sports Hub reporter Ty Anderson, a club must be able to put $9.1 million on the table to counter Boston.

This is particularly the case for the CH, which also has the necessary draft picks." - TVA Sports

Ultimately an offersheet is very rare in the NHL these days, but if the Canadiens wanted to make life harder on one of their oldest rivals, it would be an intriguing ploy.
