The Bruins have been in talks for quite some time to trade their former first-round draft pick Trent Frederic, and Elliotte Friedman believes a move could come soon.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on 'Saturday Headlines', Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic has attracted trade interest from more than one team.

It was the second time in two weeks that Elliotte Friedman mentioned Trent Frederic as a target, and with the state of his contract, one wonders if the Bruins would actually trade the 26-year-old.

Frederic is in the final season of a two-year $4.6MM contract that expires on July 1st, 2025, at which time he will become an unrestricted free agent.

The teams calling on Frederic are asking if Boston intends to sign Frederic or what their thinking could be going forward.

While the drop in production is concerning, the biggest issue for Frederic has been his shooting percentage which has dropped from 14.6% to 9.3%.

Frederic is on the last season of a two-year, $4.6 million contract that expires on July 1, 2025, when he will be an unrestricted free agent.

Teams calling about Frederic want to get an indication of whether Boston plans to re-sign him or what the Bruins' long-term plans might be.

The St. Louis native had a career-best season last year, netting 18 goals and 22 assists in 82 games, with a plus/minus rating of +9. His offense has tailed off this season, to just five goals and six assists in 38 games.

One of the biggest culprits is what seems to be a lower shooting percentage, as that has moved from 14.6 percent last season to 9.3 percent this season.

With the Bruins currently sitting in third place in the Atlantic Division, they won't be sellers on deadline day. However, having played more games than divisional foes Tampa Bay and Ottawa, the Bruins' playoff positioning is somewhat tenuous.

Boston may look to move Frederic to fill other needs within the roster, but his ability to play both center and wing might make his versatility more valuable than any potential trade return.
