Jermey Swayman contract stalemate: holdout or trade looming for Bruins Goalie?

We're nearing October 1st and things aren't looking great in the Jeremy Swayman contract negotiations.

The Boston Bruins and the 25 year-old netminder are at a serious standstill. Swayman is reportedly seeking a contract with an annual average value (AAV) of at least $8 million, but GM Don Sweeney doesn't think he's worth that much.

Now, it's unclear if he will hold out into the regular season or if the team will end up trading him. But there's a deadline of December 1st for the sides to agree on a pact if the goaltender has plans on playing this year.

While his performance last season was solid, it's tough to justify that long-term commitment for someone who hasn't proven he can handle the full-time starter role on his own.

From the Bruins' side, it's a tough call. You don't want to overpay but, letting this saga drag into the season isn't ideal. If they were to trade him, the team would be left with question marks between the pipes.

A tandem of Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi is a significant drop from the Willam M Jennings Trophy winning duo that was Linus Ullmark, who was dealt to the Ottawa Senators this Summer ahead of his contract year, and Swayman.

Bruins fans should be nervous right now. A prolonged holdout would be a big problem, but even losing Swayman in a trade won't fetch a worthy return. The situation feels like it's about to get even more complicated.
