Patrick Kane's status for the regular season now unknown after surprising practice absence

The Detroit Red Wings pursuit to break their playoff drought has possibly hit a roadblock today after star forward Patrick Kane missed practice.

The Detroit Red Wings brought their projected NHL group together to practice with one another. Only one player was missing but the player in question was a key forward Patrick Kane.

To this point, Patrick Kane had been projected to play on a line with J.T. Compher and Vladimir Tarasenko. During today's practice, that spot was occupied by Jonathan Berggren. Despite being absent from practice there was no specific mention of Patrick Kane being out of the line rushes.

Since missing practice, there has not been an update about Patrick Kane or his reasons for missing practice. This could have been just a regular day off for Patrick Kane or could indicate an injury. With Patrick Kane out the new combination of J.T. Compher, Jonathan Berggren, and Vladimir Tarasenko could be gearing up to play together.

Could Patrick Kane miss the beginning of the season?

With no update from the Detroit Red Wings or reporters to this point it leaves Patrick Kane's status a mystery. If he is indeed injured then there is a big possibility he could miss the opening night of the NHL season.

If Patrick Kane is forced to come back in the middle of the season then putting him on a new line could be better than with his previous combo. His former teammate with the Chicago Blackhawks Alex DeBrincat is heading into his second season with the Detroit Red Wings. The two could come back together to try and refind their magic with one another.
