A new report from Elliotte Friedman has revealed that a new major development has been made in contract extension talks between Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins.

The Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman have been locked in tense contract negotiations this summer. The restricted free agent has been holding out for a better long-term contract leading to a back-and-forth in the media between the two sides. Earlier this week Cam Neely from the Bruins front office took a major shot at Jeremy Swayman.

This led to Jeremy Swayman and his agent replying and revealing they might have to reconsider negotiations with the Boston Bruins. Many around the league assumed this meant that a trade could potentially be coming. However, today a new report has revealed a major update on contract talks.

Elliotte Friedman confirms a contract extension is near for Jeremy Swayman

According to a new report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman have made major progress towards a contract extension. While a contract is not completed yet there is optimism that an extension will be done soon.

The Boston Bruins backed themselves in a corner to get this extension done. Trading away former Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark over the offseason allowed Jeremy Swayman to hold all of the leverage. It will be interesting to see how this plays into the final contract number.

According to sources Jeremy Swayman will be signing an 8 year deal worth over 8 million dollars per season.

Overall Jeremy Swayman's signing is great news for the Boston Bruins and their fans who now can take a big deep breath. Before this announcement, the Bruins were preparing to go into the season with Joonas Korpisalo as their starter. Now they will have a perennial Vezina Trophy candidate between the pipes.

As more information comes out regarding this situation we will pass the news along to you.
