Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Sam McCue was suspended for two games from the Ontario Hockey League today after he refused to comply with the officials in his last game. In the official statement from the league, it was not clear exactly why McCue got the suspension. They made a post to X referencing the incident, but only mentioned the fact that he received a game misconduct penalty as well as an unsportsmanlike conduct. They did not provide any specific details about the infractions.

Luckily, one fan was able to provide the missing details we need. Apparently, McCue was ejected after scoring a goal half-way through the 3rd period of a game against Brantford after he refused to leave the ice.

McCue had been chirping with a player on the Brantford bench after the goal and ultimately the officials decided to eject both players, giving each a minor penalty and a game misconduct. However, McCue refused to leave the penalty box, delaying the game and ultimately leading to the suspension.

McCue was a seventh-round pick of the Leafs last season, having been drafted 216th overall. The 6'2 winger is still a long-shot to ever make the NHL, but he has started this season off strong, putting up 2 goals and 3 points through 3 games. Last season he scored 23 goals and 37 points in 68 games, so he is way ahead of that pace so far this year.

Furthermore, the Leafs might appreciate the edge to his game although they won't want to see him missing more of the season due to silly suspensions. With any luck, he'll be a part of the Leafs in a few years time. For now though, he will just have to focus on improving his game and staying on the ice.
