Zayne Parekh is a first-round pick of the Calgary Flames, and he got himself in trouble last night when he made a late hit and followed that up by spearing a fan. In the third period of a game recently, Zayne Parekh was called for a late hit and was ejected from that game. On his way to the ice and toward the locker room, it was reported that Parekh jabbed a fan with his stick. Since then, that incident has become the focal point of much attention, especially as far as possible disciplinary action.

Excerpts of another incident that happened earlier relating to Zachary L'Heureux, a winger who played in QMJHL and was known for being a very physical player, have been compared to Parekh. In his career in the league, L'Heureux built up quite the disciplinary record, amassing nine suspensions for high-sticking, unsportsmanlike conduct, and other incidents. One of the more publicized incidents with L'Heureux occurred back in February when he received his suspension for 10 games. The suspension dealt with the aftermath of a tussle that saw L'Heureux, as he was leaving the ice, supposedly jabbing his stick through an opening in the glass on the player's tunnel and hitting a 16-year-old fan. Fortunately, the fan had not been hurt, but the incident seemed to anger many people, calling for a long suspension.

With similarities between the two incidents, speculation is growing that Parekh's punishment could also be close to that of L'Heureux, if not even more when considering he also made a late, possibly dirty hit. The league takes fan safety very seriously, and any incident involving fans in an altercation is likely to raise all sorts of flags. If found responsible, he could be suspended as a form of punishment and at the same time a deterrent from committing such foul conduct again. It thus boils down to a situation where discipline and professionalism have to be adhered to, however heated the moment. If the charges are found to be true, Zayne Parekh could thus face some serious consequences that damage his reputation and future in hockey.
