Patrick Kane finally spoke out about the recent coaching change after he and his teammates were already called out by newcomer Todd McLellan.

Earlier in the week, Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings pulled off the shock of the week when they let head coach Derek Lalonde go and brought in Todd McLellan to replace him.

On his first day, Todd McLellan met the media with a clear message to his players: play a simple game and revisit the joy of hockey.

It's an approach that sat well with the fans and media alike, many of whom often saw this team overthink its way to frustration and underwhelming performances.

Star Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane spoke about the coaching change and McLellan's philosophy in a post-game presser.

He spoke of how he's excited for the new era under McLellan, adding that the latter's philosophy, filled with simplicity and creativity, is just what the team needs.

I think he's trying to make the game simple for us, admitted Kane. Where you're just going out there and playing.

I think most of the time if you're playing hard and skating hard and maybe if you make a mistake or two, if you're still working then sometimes that covers that up a little bit.

Patrick Kane usually takes chances and creates offense, and he liked the idea of not being afraid to make plays. He said this is good for the team, where guys can just play their instincts and eventually have fun on the ice again.

I think that's a good way to play too, said Kane. Not thinking too much and you're just playing off of instinct... overall just make the game a little simpler for us.

The Red Wings do sit near the bottom of the Eastern Conference and will have to get off a quick turnabout to keep their playoff hopes going.

McLellan's leadership will be in close view because the fans would want his vision to re-ignite the potential of the team, guiding them back to successful ways.
