Tonight after yet another disappointing game from goalie Calvin Pickard fans are calling for the Oilers to make a drastic move and place him on waivers. Earlier this week the Edmonton Oilers had an opportunity to claim goaltender Cayden Primeau from the Montreal Canadiens. The need for the Oilers to potentially claim a young goalie began after the team struggled to find a consistent goalie to partner with starter Stuart Skinner. While the Oilers see Skinner as the starter of the present and the future the workload he has been under is unsustainable. This season the Oilers' backup is Calvin Pickard who might be the most polarizing player on the Oilers' roster. At 32 years old Pickard is in his first full season as the Oilers' backup after splitting the previous two seasons between the NHL and the AHL. Throughout 13 games this season Pickard has a 2.51 goals against average and a 0.898 save percentage. While these are not terrible numbers they certainly are numbers that can be improved upon if the Oilers went looking for a new backup. Tonight Pickard was called upon to go up against the Anaheim Ducks one of the worst teams in the NHL and played arguably his worst game of the season. Pickard gave up 4 goals on 31 shots and truly just looked out of place tonight for the Oilers.

As a result of yet another collapse by the Oilers fans are getting frustrated by the lack of consistency and want something to change. ' Many are hoping that the Edmonton Oilers make an aggressive move and waive or trade Pickard for a younger option.
Fans call for Calvin Pickard to be waived or traded after another poor showing
In the aftermath of the Edmonton Oilers loss, the fans are not holding back their thoughts about Calvin Pickard and his struggles to be consistent. Several fans have called for the Oilers to move on from Pickard and find a new, younger, and better option to go with Stuart Skinner.

While some fans are done with Pickard and want to see Olivier Rodrigue called up from the AHL or another goalie brought in others are still defending him and placing the blame on the defense of the Oilers.

Ultimately the decision will be up to Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers front office to decide whether they think the team's goaltending duo or the defense is the problem. Regardless of what the answer is Bowman and the Oilers need to be aggressive as the trade deadline approaches to fix the issues at hand that they believe are costing the team games.
