The Edmonton Oilers spent big on day one of free agency, and now it will likely be the end of two tenures in Edmonton. Just a matter of days ago, the Edmonton Oilers came one game short of winning the Stanley Cup, and it's become clear they are motivated to go one step further in 2024/25. With day one of free agency behind us, it's clear the Oilers are in win now mode, as the team re-signed Mattias Janmark and Adam Henrique while adding Viktor Oloffson and Jeff Skinner among others. Now, with limited cap space, it appears to be the end for both Evander Kane and Cody Ceci, who are now likely to be moved in the coming weeks as the Oilers solidify their roster before next season. This is Janmark's first multi-year contract since his ELC and his first raise since 2020. The Oilers now have less than $1.35M in cap space, again with Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg (and Raphael Lavoie) as RFAs. Kane (NMC), McLeod, Ceci and Kulak are trade candidates.

Moving Kane ($5.125M AAV) and Ceci ($3.25M AAV) are holding up the Oilers cap situation, with the team now having just $1.35M left to spend. It's been a long-time coming, but with a need on the blue line and a potential upgrade or two, if they can move both players to bring back Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, it's safe to say they'll be confident in taking the next step.

Source: Oilers Daily Oilers free agent signings may force two regular players out of town via trade
