It's a sad day to be in the hockey world, as tragic news has broken that a former first-round pick of the Washington Capitals, Miika Elomo, has passed away.

Miika Elomo was drafted 23rd overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. His NHL career lasted only two games in the 1999-2000 season, in which he had one assist.

He played a number of seasons in the AHL, scoring 30 goals and 45 assists for 75 points in 216 games.

Following four seasons in North America, Elomo returned to Finland, completing his pro career with the Blues of the SM-Liiga. During the 2004-05 campaign, he was held without a point in 15 games prior to retiring.
