This evening just a day before the Edmonton Oilers make their regular season debut the organization has announced that they will be without Evander Kane long-term.

The Edmonton Oilers have confirmed tonight that Evander Kane has been placed on Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR). After suffering an injury last season during the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Florida Panthers that he is still working back from.

During the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs Evander Kane missed several crucial games. It was later revealed that he suffered an abdominal injury that at the time was considered to be serious. The team was hoping that rest and recovery would do the trick but that ended up not being the case. Just a couple of weeks ago the Edmonton Oilers announced Kane would have surgery and be out for 5 to 6 months.

Evander Kane was a crucial part of the Edmonton Oilers lineup before getting injured. In 77 games this past season Kane put up 44 points despite dealing with nagging injuries. The Edmonton Oilers will now need to find a way to replace Evander Kane's production but do get a bit of salary cap relief from this move.

After placing Evander Kane on LTIR the team was afforded some flexibility in their salary cap. As a result, the Edmonton Oilers able to sign Travis Dermott to a contract after he came into training camp on a Player Tryout (PTO).

It remains to be seen how the loss of Evander Kane will impact the Edmonton Oilers lineup. Tomorrow will be the team's first test without Evander Kane in the lineup when they take on the Winnipeg Jets. The Oilers will be looking to make their way back to the Stanley Cup Finals and cross the finish line this time.
