Recently P.K. Subban spoke about the Edmonton Oilers and their chances of winning a Stanley Cup both this year and going into the future.

The Edmonton Oilers have had one of the most talented groups in the NHL for several seasons. Despite this, they have failed to win a Stanley Cup with their talented group. NHL analyst P.K. Subban went on the Pat McAfee show and confirmed he doesn't believe this year is the Edmonton Oilers' year either.

This is a tough time to win. I still don't think they're the best team left in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I think Dallas is better than them. I think Florida is better than them. I think the Rangers are deeper than them.

With Paul Bissonnette ruling out the Edmonton Oilers as favorites of any kind to win a Stanley Cup this season he turned his attention to the future. The future for the Edmonton Oilers is not that bright either according to Paul Bissonnette who believes their Stanley Cup window is fading fast.

So, if Connor doesn't win this year, it's not the end of the world. But that window is definitely closing for his opportunity to win a Stanley Cup in Edmonton. It's got to happen sooner than later. I mean, it's enough time now; it's time to get over the hump.

To a certain extent, Paul Bissonnette is correct. The Edmonton Oilers core is all in their mid-20s now and has little to show for it with the talent they have. However, this core group could have plenty of time to compete as long as they have Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Similar to the Pittsburgh Penguins who until this season where Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin both eclipsed 35 have been perennial contenders.

If the Edmonton Oilers can keep their stars together and the fan base from turning on their core group's lack of championships patience could pay off.

The great thing is that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are such high-caliber players they will likely always have value so running it back again a few more seasons. If it still doesn't work the Edmonton Oilers could trade either player and it doesn't devalue what they could get for either player.
