Veteran forward Kyle Okposo might finally lift the Stanley Cup and receive a huge bonus if the Florida Panthers defeat the Edmonton Oilers. If the Panthers win, Okposo will celebrate his first Stanley Cup victory and cash in on a special bonus he negotiated while with the Buffalo Sabres. Knowing he was coming back for a 17th NHL season, Okposo requested a $500k incentive for winning the Cup when he signed his one-year deal with Sabres GM Kevyn Adams. I wanted to make sure that I gave myself a chance, no matter what,» Okposo said. «If I didn't have that in my contract, I might not have tried to continue it on, to continue to push. It was kind of a reminder, more than anything, that I wanted a chance to win. I'm not a very selfish person and it was hard to make a decision like that, but I wanted to put it out there.

Given Buffalo's record-long playoff drought among major North American pro sports, this bonus clause seemed far-fetched at the time. Okposo knew he might be traded but wanted to remain a Sabre unless he could join a contender. After being traded to the Panthers, he now has the chance to win hockey's greatest prize. Panthers owner Vincent Viola will be happy to write that $500k check if they secure their first Stanley Cup. It's been a challenging playoff run for the 36-year-old Okposo, who was scratched in six of the Panthers' 20 playoff games. After 1,089 combined regular season and playoff games, Kyle Okposo is only one win away from the #StanleyCup. The veteran forward talked with @BJaffe about the @FlaPanthers' mentality heading into Game 4. #TimeToHunt

However, he's played in every game of the Finals against the Oilers, contributing two assists while averaging just 8:33 in ice time. For Okposo, winning the Stanley Cup would be the perfect way to cap off his career, with the $500k bonus as the cherry on top.
