Reporter Mark Madden of 105.9 The X is being called a liar by NHL insider Rob Rossi of The Athletic for inventing false information regarding Evgeni Malkin's future. Mark Madden is facing some serious heat for false information he stated on air during a radio show he was doing on 105.9 The X. He claimed that Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was going to walk away from the remainder of his two-year contract with the team in order to go back home and finish off his career in Russia. «I've been told (Malkin) won't be back after this year that he'll go to Russia and forgo the last year of his deal,» Madden said. «How does that impact Sid? Does Sid know? I bet he does. And I heard there were discussions about trying to get Letang to Montreal at Letang's request, but nothing came of that. So I don't know where this is headed.» The Athletic's Rob Rossi is very disappointed in these remarks made by Madden and has stated that there is absolutely no truth to what he said. Rossi works a lot closer with the team than Madden does, and he said Malkin would never be disrespectful to walk away from a team he spent his entire career with, especially that he is still under contract with them. Rumors about Malkin possibly retiring at the end of next season also began to float around, to which Malkin issued a statement himself saying that was definitely not true.

It is clear now that Malkin will at the very least play out the remainder of the two years he has on his contract, and he is hopeful the Penguins can push for one last Stanley Cup during that time. Malkin has admitted that he would be okay if management felt it was right to trade him for whatever reason, however he wants to try and run it back one more time like the good ol' days with Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang. Evgeni Malkin is now 38, and despite his age, he was a true warrior for his team last year, having played in all 82 games. He managed to score 27 goals and total 67 points. Not bad for a man who is approaching 40!
