Leafs GM Brad Treliving has finally broken his silence and explained why there has been so much secrecy behind the injury that Auston Matthews suffered. GM Brad Treliving finally put some answers to the question concerning Auston Matthews' injury and why exactly the Maple Leafs have been tight-lipped concerning this matter. Two weeks out of commission have only worked to speculate on the nature of Matthews' condition. Though confirmed not to involve the wrist issues he's previously dealt with, theories have ranged everywhere from shoulder to neck or rib injuries. His trip to Munich, Germany to consult a specialist only heightened the concern of many fans. The casual ones got impatient and started blaming the Leafs for not saying anything. Of course, Treliving did dampen the rumor mill that Matthews's injury isn't serious, but his evasion to go into any kind of detail raised eyebrows since most professional teams do such updates to manage expectations. The good news is that he won't need surgery, although the international consultations would suggest it's not a minor issue.

He'll probably miss upcoming games against Vegas and Utah, and maybe he's back in December. Surprisingly, Toronto has posted an excellent record of 5-1-0 without Matthews thus far, but how long they can keep this up is anybody's guess. It hasn't stopped at Matthews, though, as the injuries have piled up for the Leafs. David Kampf is on IR, Calle Jarnkrok just had surgery for his groin and hernia, and Max Pacioretty is also out with a leg issue, and has just been placed on LTIR. Max Domi is fighting through some sort of injury and has been placed on IR. Ryan Reaves is serving a suspension.

They have called up Fraser Minten and Nikita Grebenkin to try and fill in some of the holes, at least until Kampf is back in the lineup. All these issues put together have left Leafs Nation in the dark, begging for more transparent responses regarding Matthews' status and what the future potentially holds.
