Auston Matthews departed practice early on Tuesday, but now coach Craig Berube has revealed the upper-body ailment that forced him off the ice.

Heading into the 2024/25 season, it's Stanley Cup or bust once more for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and if they are to finally break a near 60-year drought, captain Auston Matthews will be a huge reason for it. That led to a mass panic early on Tuesday as No. 34 departed practice after just 25 minutes, giving all Maple Leafs fans a major moment of worry.

Fortunately, Head Coach Craig Berube has given a massive update on the situation, and while Matthews is dealing with something, it's nowhere near as worrying as first thought.

Fortunately for the Maple Leafs, he is simply dealing with an upper body injury, but during his update, Berube assured fans it was nothing bad as he defined it as 'nothing serious'. After tallying 169 goals over the last three seasons, losing Matthews would be heartbreaking for Maple Leafs fans, and now with the added responsibility of the captaincy, he becomes even more valuable.

With Matthews locked in as the top centre on the team alongside Matthew Knies and Mitch Marner, all three are set up to have massive years, and with Berube shaking things up down the lineup, this Maple Leafs team is looking better than ever if they can stay healthy along with their captain. It's unclear if Matthews will miss any time for the remainder of the pre-season, but with the regular season just over two weeks away, this is a story for Maple Leafs fans to keep an eye on among many others with some huge roster decisions to be made in the coming days.
