The Athletic released an article yesterday breaking down the atrocities Mike Babcock got away with during his coaching career, drawing attention to his unethical practices. Babcock has had a bad reputation for a very long time now. That being said, only now does it seem to have actually affected his career. The Columbus Blue Jackets hired Babcock to be their new head coach this summer, only to fire him before training camp even started. This came after he allegedly went through a player's phone at his home. That barely even scratches the surface of what he's done throughout his career. Mike Babcock was a cerebral tactician, but his leadership style was demanding and autocratic. It led to one of the sport's most spectacular reputational collapses. @RobsonDan & @KatieJStrang spoke with his former players and staffers:

These are just a few of the quotes that the article contains regarding Babcock. He took my livelihood like it was nothing I would never treat anyone like that I think he loves f****** with people's heads. I really do. Perhaps the most infamous incident Babcock created was when he forced Mitch Marner to rank the Leafs players from hardest to least hardest working. Babcock denied this claim after leaving the Leafs, saying that Marner played well for him as an indication that nothing inappropriate had happened. However, one fan called him out for speaking in 3rd person. Mike Babcock speaking in the third person is a truly underrated part of how much of a piece of shit human he is.

Another fan took the opportunity to rightfully call out the Columbus Blue Jackets for thinking they could get away with signing Babcock this summer. He notes how the Athletic seems to have done a better background check on Babcock than the entire NHL team did. The Athletic did more diligence in their article on Mike Babcock, than the #cbj    when hiring him... I'm still amazed they went through with the hire and doubled down on it after the first allegations came out... My Lord, the incompetence...

Luckily, it appears as though Babcock will never be in the NHL again. Should another team attempt to give him another shot, it would certainly backfire.
