Ryan Reeves is dealt a terrible blow in Toronto

As Brad Treliving looks to add depth to the roster, players like Ryan Reeves are in a fight for their roster spot situation.

Treliving has added some young talent to the roster for the Maple Leafs and the prospects like Pontus Holmberg, Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan are looking to take some veterans spots in the starting lineups.

This puts players like Reeves and David Kampf in the hot seat to need to earn their spots come training camp. Kampf has been mentioned from time to time as a trade option and could make for a good fourth line addition to another team.

But for Ryan Reeves, a demotion from the starting lineup to start the 2024-25 season would be a tough blow. Part of the problem is that he did not impress much over 49 games last year with just four goals and six total points.

One of his bright spots were his leadership and physicality as he was called on to protect and defend his teammates from time to time and stepped up to do so.

If new head coach Craig Berube decides on a player to step up, it would be a difficult decision to remove Reeves. As the Editor in Leafs stated;

There is no problem though to have some competition during the camps. That would benefit the Leafs in the end. And as for Reeves, it has been a quiet offseason for the veteran after signing the three-year deal with Treliving. He was previously looking for a deal, and still has two years left on this contract.

But in order to play, he may still need to step up his game overall.
