Mitch Marner continues to make headlines as he hosts his annual charity event while avoiding specific questions from the media.

Marner has held an annual charity event in Toronto every summer for more than half a decade now. This year will be the 6th installment of the Marner Assist Foundation, which is hosting a few events including a shinny tournament designed to raise money for children's healthcare, education, and social services. In the past, he has been open to talking Leafs and hockey altogether at these events, but this summer he is choosing to be quiet about it.

Mitch Marner is doing media rounds for his Marner Assist Foundation today, a great charity now in its 6th year.

This year, though, has been quite different as far as interviews go. No #Leafs questions permitted.

Here is the interview he did with CTV this hour.

The reaction from the community has largely been in support of Marner. While Leafs fans are very eager for an update on his status with the team, most recognize that this event is about something more important to hockey.

how dare mitch marner want to focus on his charity event while he does media FOR that event.... the fact that he even has to bar those questions is actually a huge indictment of the way media and fans react to him more than anything. wouldn't even ask him abt the actual event lol

As such, many fans have blamed the media for the fact that Marner feels like he has to protect himself from such questions. After all, this is really part of his private life, and has nothing to do with the Leafs.

«Why my inability as a reporter to understand the time and place for specific questions makes me so insecure that I want to run Mitch Marner out of the city.»

Fixed it for you.

This could be an indication that he would like to leave Toronto, as the media nonsense is getting out of hand. However, he did say that he hopes to continue the tradition for at least eight more years, so hopefully for the children's sake, Marner and the Leafs come to some kind of agreement.
