The Toronto Maple Leafs have made very little movement in their forward group this off-season, but now they've made the intriguing addition of Alex Nylander. While William Nylander steals the headlines in the family after starring for the Maple Leafs, his younger brother took a major step forward in 2023/24 after he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 23 games, Nylander had a solid 11 goals and 16 points, showing the potential that saw him drafted No. 8 overall back in 2016, and many believed he'd get plenty of interest this off-season. It took until almost August, but now he has found his new home, signing with the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team that his brother stars with. 🖊 News | We've signed forward Alex Nylander to a one-year AHL contract.

The 26-year old has now played in 121 games at the NHL level, and appears ready to make a consistent role at the top level, but with this deal, he'll need to prove himself in the AHL first. If that can happen, there's plenty of confidence that he can make the jump full-time this season, and with spots open in the Maple Leafs bottom six, this could be the best possible landing spot for Nylander to continue his rise that began in 2023/24.
