Dakota Joshua has been a fantastic player in the NHL for several years, but now he has made a heartbreaking announcement via the Canucks social media. The NHL is full of injuries and setbacks given the physical nature of the sport, but it's not very often that we get tragic announcements like we have recently heard from Dakota Joshua. Via the Vancouver Canucks X page, the veteran center has revealed his cancer diagnosis, which will likely lead to him missing training camp and potentially part of the upcoming season.

Thankfully, it appears there is plenty of positive news, with the early diagnosis helping Joshua, as he is now in recovery and hoping to return to the ice at some point during the 2024/25 season. Last year, the 28-year old played in 63 games, tallying a career high 18 goals and 32 points, and will be relied upon heavily this year, so the hope is that he can return to the ice, but more importantly be healthy for his family and friends. Ultimately, this announcement could have been much worse for Dakota, the Canucks and everyone who knows the talented young star, and while there's optimism, this should serve as a great reminder for everyone to know how to spot the signs and catch things like this early.
