Just one day after Quinn Hughes was ejected for a cross-check on Josh Norris Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet had addressed the incident. In his response Rick Tocchet came to the defense of his captain and questioned the officials.
Rick Tocchet disputes the ejection of Quinn Hughes while blaming Josh Norris
In a new press conference with the media after the game, Rick Tocchet seemed frustrated with the call that led to Quinn Hughes' ejection. Rick Tocchet after seeing the play in real time believed that Josh Norris provoked Quinn Hughes with a hit to the head. He then classified the hit from Quinn Hughes as more of a push than a hit. This guy (Norris) hit his head or something. Honestly, I gotta see it again. I don't think it was a vicious cross check. I don't know if there was a push or something, Tocchet said post-game. Regardless Quinn Hughes was ultimately ejected and the Canucks had to adjust. Beyond sharing his frustration on the penalty call Rick Tocchet also praised the rest of his defensive corps for stepping up last night. I thought we did a nice job most of the night managing the puck. When you only have 5 D, you have to be careful because you might double shift a couple guys, and when they're out there a long time, that's a tough grind. I think we managed the puck well tonight. It seems as though Quinn Hughes has escaped any further punishment for the hit on Josh Norris. It will be interesting to see if Rick Tocchet ends up facing punishment for his comments on the call made.
