The Winnipeg Jets and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff are on the verge of trading Rutger McGroarty to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

McGroarty, who was picked 14th overall in the 2022 draft, hasn't had a chance to play in the NHL yet despite starring on the gold-medal winning USA at the World Juniors last year and at Michigan where the playmaker led them to the frozen four.

The 20 year-old has been itching for his call to the show, and it appears GM Kyle Dubas and the Penguins are ready to grant his wish as he'll play with childhood hero Sidney Crosby.

The return is ironically Brayden Yager, who was a 14th overall pick last year by Pittsburgh.

The 19 year-old is a stud on the WHL champions Moose Jaw Warriors who made their maiden Memorial Cup in club history and had 11 goals in the postseason as the team's top center over Edmonton Oilers top prospect Matt Savoie.

The trade is a quick 180 for Penguins fans who pictured Yager as their next great winger, and celebrated him signing an entry level contact this Summer.

Now in a stunning turn of events, they have to bid goodbye to him and embrace the McGroarty train instead. Since this is a deal involving dueling lottery picks and highly-touted prospects oozing with NHL potential, this will be talked about for years to come.
