The fact that the Habs have a lot of goalies on their roster isn't necessarily good news. There were nine goalies at training camp, which is more than a few.

Now there are three, and even then, it's a problem. It all boils down to one thing: there's no dominant goaltender on the team right now.

We like Samuel Montembeault a lot, but let's face it, he doesn't fit the profile of a star goalie. We definitely need a goalkeeper of the future, and there's one on the market right now.

Barry Trotz, general manager of the Nashville Predators, made an interesting statement about the future of his goaltenders:

"We're blessed to have had some excellent performances in front of the net in Nashville. It started with Tomas Vokoun. Then there was Pekka Rinne and let's hope it's Juuse in the future and for a long time to come."

- Barry Trotz

Saros is indeed an excellent goalkeeper, but there's a problem with that statement. His backup is Yaroslav Askarov, who won't be content to play second fiddle for much longer.

Trotz said word for word that the goalie of the future is Saros, so he'll have no choice but to trade Askarov to avoid losing him for nothing, and that's where Kent Hughes shouldn't miss the boat.

With all the young talent the Habs have, there are a lot of promising young players knocking on the NHL door, and he can afford to pay for a goalie of Askarov's calibre.

Stay tuned, but don't be surprised to see Askarov's name included in a transaction in the near future.
