According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks were prepared to swap veterans prior to the start of the 2023-24 season. Kevin Labanc of the Sharks and Tyler Myers of the Canucks are two veterans who are in the final years of their respective contracts and could each use a change of scenery. Both players have not lived up to their expectations and a simple swap was in the cards but was nixed at the last minute because the Canucks feel they can trade Myers at the deadline if their season goes south.

They Have Different Salary Situations
Myers has a cap hit of $6 million this year but is owed only $1 million due to his $5 million signing bonus being already paid off by the Canucks. However, Labanc has a cap hit of $4.725 million but is actually owed $5.875 million for the 2023-24 season. Labanc played 72 games in the 2022-23 season, scoring 15 goals and 33 points for the Sharks. Myers, a defenseman, played 78 games for the Canucks, scoring one goal and 17 points.
