The closer we got to July 1st, the more fear gripped Canadiens fans about Cole Caufield's contract extension. The possibility of an offer sheet was very real, and quite frankly, it could have been higher than the contract he signed.

However, it was settled on June 5, to the delight of all CH fans. An eight-year, $7.85 million-a-year deal. For a potential 40-plus-goal scorer, that's pretty incredible.

In a recent interview, while in Vegas for an NHL promotional tour, Caufield revealed the main reason he signed long-term with the Habs. Not only is the team on the right track, he loves the city. He really emphasized that aspect.

Caufield isn't the only one. More and more young players, who aren't from Quebec, are spending their summers in Montreal, or most of them. Nick Suzuki and Kaiden Guhle are good examples.

Montreal is known as a city where partying is very accessible, and it's true. Many young people have succumbed to the craze in the past. However, today's young people are the leaders of the team, and they stay in the metropolis for the festivals, for the life, not for the many places to party and enjoy the good stuff.

As a result, an incredible chemistry develops between them year-round, not just during the season. We can thank the captain for this positive influence, as he was the first to stay in Montreal year-round in the youth ranks.

The fact that Caufield and other club stars feel this way about the city will attract other players, no doubt about it. Not players at the end of their careers, as we're used to seeing in Montreal, but impact players.
