It's been a rollercoaster for a number of teams this season in the NHL, and the latest news surrounding the Calgary Flames' coaching staff is sure to shake things up even more. As reported earlier, according to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the current Jack Adams Award winner as the NHL's top coach is in danger of losing his job this summer. That coach is none other than Darryl Sutter, who led the Calgary Flames to an incredible campaign just last year. It seems we have conflicting reports regarding the fate of Calgary Flames head coach. While Seravalli suggested that Sutter is likely to be fired this summer, his Sportsnet colleague Elliotte Friedman paints a different picture. According to Friedman, the Flames have committed a substantial amount of money to Sutter, making it unlikely that they will let him go. In fact, Friedman believes that both sides are committed to working through any issues and that Sutter will remain in his position.

Unfortunately for Sutter, this season has been a different story altogether. Despite having a talented roster at his disposal, he seemed to make all the wrong moves and drove his team out of a playoff spot. To make matters worse, he reportedly alienated some of the Flames' top players, further damaging his chances of sticking around. Earlier today, Seravalli had this to say about Sutter: He pushed and pushed this season, pushing all of the wrong buttons, helping push the Flames out of the playoffs. The decision to send Nick Ritchie in on a season-deciding shootout was just the piece de resistance on a season full of head-scratching calls from four months of Jonathan Huberdeau on the right wing to weeks of Milan Lucic in the top six. The handling of Jakob Pelletier and «What number is he?» rubbed the entire organization the wrong way. There are believed to be at least a handful of players expected to voice their disapproval at exit meetings, if they have not done so already. They'll voice them to GM Brad Treliving, who does not have a contract for next season. Could Calgary actually continue with Sutter as coach? Cowtown doesn't seem big enough for Treliving and Sutter. One could be back. Neither could be back. The only thing we know is change is coming in Calgary. It's a tough break for Sutter, but in the fast-paced world of the NHL, success is often fleeting. We'll have to wait and see what the future holds for him and the Flames.
