With the 2023 draft lottery just around the corner, and less than three weeks away from this important day, the excitement is growing for Habs fans. Even though the organization does not have the best odds of winning the first overall pick, with only an 8.5% chance, the Tricolore still has a very real opportunity to get their hands on future NHL prodigy Connor Bedard. In fact, a fascinating anecdote just surfaced on 98.5 Sports, and superstition lovers will be served. A Tricolore jersey with the name Bedard and his famous number 98 has been around for almost 25 years, many years before the Regina Pats captain was even born. While appearing on Mario Langlois' show, restaurateur Jean Bédard, who is known for his chain of sports restaurants that used to be called La Cage aux Sports, told a story that has become funny. Let's just say we all hope it becomes a prescient anecdote. In 1998, then Canadiens president Ronald Corey gave Jean Bedard a Tricolore jersey. On the back of the Sainte-Flanelle, it says Bedard ... with the number 98. You know that if we ever get the first pick in the draft, my jersey is going to be worth a lot! It's going to be very relevant! Connor Bedard has the number 98... so I'm keeping him. Maybe he'll come in handy next year. Wow! We agree that the fact that there is a jersey with the name Bedard in the CH uniform is not out of the ordinary, given that this family name is common in Quebec. However, the fact that the next star of the NHL is called so, and that he wears the number 98, the same number that was offered to Jean Bedard in 1998, is still a fascinating detail. Canadiens fans are hoping that luck will be in their favor on May 8, and until then, all hopes are allowed.
