The big story of the day is of course the huge deal that brought forward Vladimir Tarasenko to the New York Rangers.

The New York organization was looking to make a big move for quite some time, they seriously tried to acquire Patrick Kane, but now it's finally the 31-year-old Russian player who makes his appearance in the Big Apple.

It must be admitted that quite a few people on the hockey planet strongly believed that the famous number 88 of the Blackhawks was destined to join his former teammate Artemi Panarin.

But what made the Rangers change their mind and finally opt for another option?

"The Rangers targeted Tarasenko, a player they've coveted for a long time, because the asking price for Meier and Kane was too high for their liking." - Emily Kaplan, ESPN

"The Rangers felt the asking price for Kane/Meier would be too high for their cap situation. Plus, they didn't want to wait for Kane and there were concerns with his hip." - Mollie Walker

So, from what we can gather, the Blue Shirts decided on the much more affordable price for Tarasenko. Now, the troubles associated with a possible hip injury for Kane have also dampened the spirits of team GM Chris Drury.

It will be interesting to follow the next few weeks, as there is no doubt that after Bo Horvat and now Tarasenko, other buying teams will want to make a move, too.
