Admittedly, the Montreal Canadiens trade deadline was disappointing, as Kent Hughes only made two trades, one of which was a minor one for his club-school.

Obviously, the numerous injuries that affected two very interesting assets for the trade market, in Sean Monahan and Joel Edmundson, have greatly limited the possibilities of hitting two other big moves for Hughes.

Many fans and observers were surprised to see that the veteran defenseman was still a member of the Habs after March 3.

If some were wondering if the trade rumours involving him were really true, we just got the official answer thanks to journalist Stu Cowan, who covers the activities of the Tricolore:

"Joel Edmundson most likely would have been traded at the last trade deadline, by the Montreal Canadiens, if not for injuries." - Stu Cowan

That's pretty clear, Edmundson would have been traded, had he not been injured the month before the deadline. So the rumors about him were true.

From what we can tell between the branches, it's that Hughes kept his price for his defenseman, even though he hadn't played any games during the month of February.

For their part, the other NHL teams that were potentially interested in the CH's number 44 were afraid to acquire him because of his injury history, and they didn't dare pay what Hughes was asking.

It is very unfortunate that the Habs' bad luck with the injury bug may have cost them two big first round picks for Edmundson and Monahan.
