This isn't the first time we've talked about the fact that the Montreal Canadiens have great depth on the left side of the defense in their organization.

In addition to having the majority of the good defensemen on the left, several young promising prospects are progressing at a lightning pace this season, suggesting that they could soon have a chance to break into the big club's lineup.

In fact, the incredible emergence of Michael Matheson, who is positioning himself more and more as a top defenseman for the CH, in addition to the young Kaiden Guhle, Jordan Harris and Arber Xhekaj who are already with the big club, contributes greatly to a happy problem for the Tricolore.

Add to that the organization's young backs like Lane Hutson, Adam Engstrom, William Trudeau, Jayden Struble, Nicolas Beaudin and even Mathias Norlinder.

And I haven't even mentioned Joel Edmundson, who is also a left-handed defenseman.

In short, all of this points to one thing, we should expect some movement that could involve one or more of these defensemen, as "an Alexander Romanov trade" seems more and more plausible.

What do I mean by that? Hughes will have to trade some of his defensive pieces to address other needs in his organization, such as finding a top-notch goalie or another right-handed defenseman, for example.

That's the advantage of having a pool full of talent at a specific position, it allows you to fill other needs, thanks to the surplus of quality.

While it seems pretty obvious that Matheson and Guhle are in Montreal to stay, the type of defenseman that Arber Xhekaj is, with the intangibles he can bring to the ice, leads me to believe that he too is an untouchable.

I doubt that the CH's GM would be willing to trade a Hutson or an Engstrom, who are two prospects that can still develop another year, before hoping to potentially make the jump to Montreal.

That would leave Edmundson and Harris, who could become very attractive targets for a trade this off-season.

There will be action on the Montreal Canadiens' roster again this summer, it's almost a certainty.
