Kent Hughes looked like a genius on Monday, as the Habs announced the long-awaited signing of Cole Caufield. The GM maximized the number of years and minimized the impact on his payroll. While we agree that this is excellent work, Hughes had it easier than we thought. Indeed, Cole had only one request of his agent, and that was to sign for a minimum of six years, eight at best. He absolutely wanted to be tied to the Habs for the long haul, and he had no interest in a bridge contract to get more money faster. He loved the direction the team was going. He loves the city, he loves Quebec. [...] He wanted at least six years. - Pat Brisson Brisson even spoke to the young man's family, and the pitch never changed. Although there were a lot of rumors during the negotiations, we can say without a doubt that Caufield is a Habs in his heart.

The discussion about this type of contract did take place, but apparently, it didn't last very long... https://t.co/UBNIe4iJkz- TVA Sports (@TVASports) June 7, 2023
