NHL insider Pierre LeBrun has just revealed that former coach of the year Gerard Gallant has just been hired and will be one of the Spengler Cup Canada coaches. The NHL awards the Jack Adams Award annually to the League's outstanding coach. In 2018, Gerard Gallant received the honor for guiding the Vegas Golden Knights to a stellar 51-24-7 record. But less than two years later, Gallant was let go by Vegas. He quickly resurfaced as head coach of the New York Rangers, leading the team to the playoffs in consecutive seasons. Despite that, the Rangers moved on from Gallant after the 2022-23 season, keeping him from behind the coaching bench since. That could change soon. In 2025, an international prestige tournament will be held, the Spengler Cup, and from insider Pierre LeBrun, who recently hinted on X that Gallant is expected to be named head coach for Team Canada, the news isn't officially out, but he also reported that Joe Thornton and Brad Pascall would be managing the team.

Canada last won the Spengler Cup in 2019 and have taken a total of 16 titles, including three in a row from 2015 to 2017. If Gallant can steer them to victory, the path might be clear for his return to the NHL. Rumors have also linked Gallant to the Montreal Canadiens coaching staff. Many fans would welcome his return to Montreal, where he served as an assistant coach from 2012 to 2014. His experience could be a valuable asset to Martin St. Louis, one of the League's least-seasoned head coaches. Should LeBrun's report materialize, the Spengler Cup offers Gallant a prime opportunity to remind the hockey world of his abilities and potentially earn another NHL coaching role.
