Rumours about Oilers forward Jesse Puljujarvi have been around for a while, but it's about to get a big boost, according to Edmonton reporter Mark Spector.

Check out what he just posted:

"For those waiting to see if Jesse Puljujarvi's name is on the waivers, it seems less likely that Yamamoto will play on Sunday, so no movement for now. But when Yamamoto is ready, we're pretty sure Puljujarvi will be submitted to the waivers." - Mark Spector

Quite a turnaround on this one, as Edmonton was looking to get a second round pick for the Finn earlier this season.

This is serious stuff, Puljujarvi would actually be on the verge of being tendered, which means he could become available for free to Kent Hughes and the Habs.

The 24-year-old, who was drafted fourth overall in 2016, has a lot of potential, but has never been able to thrive in the Oilers' offense.

He had a career-best season last season with 36 points in 65 games, but it's been more particularly difficult for him this season, when he's only accumulated 10 points in 49 games.

Remember that Hughes showed interest in the big winger in the 2022 draft, according to several sources. It remains to be seen if the mediocre season of the latter has cooled the club's management or not.

Puljujarvi makes $3 million and will be a restricted free agent this summer.

It will be interesting to follow this file in the coming days.
