The NHL made a major announcement earlier today that will effect the future of every player who comes into the league going forward.

NHL Makes Monumental Change To The NHL Draft

Today it was announced that the 32 teams of the NHL voted and approved a move to a decentralized draft. This has been confirmed by many sources and is going to be a massive deal in the future.

NEWS: The NHL has issued a memo to teams saying that there was majority support for a shift to a decentralized draft. Still not clear if it will happen in 2024 and there are a lot of logistics to work out.

As the tweet above says not much is known about how this will work. Theories have been coming together from some people in the hockey community of what the NHL Draft could look like though.

NHL Makes A Move To Decentralize The Draft

The decentralizing of the draft was asked for by NHL clubs for many reasons. It allows the time to be less chaos leading into the start of free agency. The teams will also get more privacy to work out potential trades.

As for what this will look like many believe it will be similar to the NBA or NFL Draft. If this is the case fans will have less access to players in the stadium during the draft. Less players will likely also be invited.

It will be fascinating to see if this change is welcomed or ridiculed by NHL fans whenever it does officially take place.
