The NHL has announced a few changes to its rulebook for the coming season Here's a breakdown of these new implementations:

Players Will Need to Wear Helmets During Warmups

The days of looking at your favorite player's hair sway during warmups are numbered. Following concerns raised by GMs about injuries, the NHL has mandated helmets during warmups for players who joined the league after 2019.

Consolidation of Rules on Illegal Sticks

The NHL's previous stance on what characterized an illegal stick was dispersed across the rulebook. To bring clarity, all criteria for illegal sticks have now been regrouped into a single rule, 10.8. This change is made in order for the referees to implement the rule with greater consistency and frequency on the ice.

Coaches Have More Power with Their Challenges

The coach's challenge system witnessed a significant expansion this off-season. In instances where a puck exits the game and the referee misses it, it is now subject to challenge by either team's coach.

A Refreshed Take on the Offside Rule

The offside rule also experienced a tweak. It now stipulates:

"If, during a delayed off-side, an attacking player in the attacking zone chooses to proceed to his players' bench (which extends into the attacking zone) to be replaced by a teammate, he shall be considered to have cleared the zone when both skates are off the ice, and the Linesperson judges him to have left the playing surface."

Though this may not seem like a profound modification, it'll be riveting to observe teams and strategists potentially exploiting this rule to their advantage.
