Timo Meier's journey with the San Jose Sharks is coming to an end.

Indeed, we learned from the informer Pierre LeBrun that the Sharks announced to the Hurricanes that he would no longer be in the race to acquire the forward.

The choice of the Sharks' GM, Mike Grier, could happen at any moment.

He also adds that there are only two clubs left in the derby for the Swiss winger:

"I believe the Sharks are now talking to only two teams regarding Timo Meier and my impression is that they are New Jersey and Vegas. So there's still work to be done. Obviously, it's a fluid situation, but I think we're there." - Pierre LeBrun

This isn't the first time we've heard that the New Jersey Devils are a more than likely destination for Meier. The organization is looking to make a big splash to add some weight to their roster and the Sharks' number 28 would be a great acquisition.

As for the Golden Knights, since they now have $9.5M left on their payroll, thanks to Mark Stone's contract being placed on the long-term injury list, they are still in the mix for Meier, even though they acquired forward Ivan Barbashev today.

I have my doubts that what is holding up the deal right now is the fact that the team that will acquire him wants to come to an immediate agreement with him on the terms of a contract extension, before closing the deal.

This will be another big issue to follow in the next few hours.
