The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) were recently shocked by a major revelation, and now, the teams involve face major suspensions.
The AJHL fight back against departing teams
This past week has been a whirlwind for the AJHL, as it was announced that five teams (Brooks Bandits, Spruce Grove Saints, Okotoks Oilers, Sherwood Park Crusaders, and Blackfalds Bulldogs) will all be departing for the BCHL, effective from the 2024-25 season. Now, according to users on X, those teams will officially be suspended by the AJHL, effective immediately. CONFIRMED: AJHL is suspending the five teams leaving - in effect immediately. Just got word that Olds and Blackfalds will not be playing tonight as Olds was told by the league to not show up to Blackfalds. I believe the Brooks- DV game will follow en suite. Will report more soon-

Future of the AJHL remains unclear
The AJHL entered this season with 16 teams, so while some fear for the future of the league, it appears that the talent base remains if the rest of the league can come together to remain strong. In the case of the teams suspended, there's going to be plenty more updates to come over the next few days and weeks, but for now, it's hard to blame the AJHL, who have seen their world turned upside down over the past week.
