This summer, Kent Hughes took everyone by surprise when he traded Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick for Nathan Légaré, Jeff Petry, Casey DeSmith and a draft pick. We would have given Hoffman away outright, while Pitlick was acquired by lottery. What's more, Petry and DeSmith gave us other draft picks afterwards. In short, a transaction 100% to the CH's advantage, and we're still wondering how Kent Hughes did it. As we saw in Montreal, Mike Hoffman isn't exactly keeping pace with the NHL. The forward had a few nice flashes, but nothing more. He wasn't very dominant. But now, he's going to be used on the Sharks' first line. This is sad news for the Sharks, and shows that the team is far from competitive. Note that the 4th overall pick in the last draft, Will Smith, will play on the 4th line.
