Darryl Sutter's stint with the Calgary Flames, which didn't conclude on the best of terms. Many in the Flames locker room made it clear: it was either him or them. A glimpse into this narrative was offered by none other than a former Flames player.

Toffol's Revelation
Having joined the Flames during the 2022 trade deadline, Tyler Toffoli had quite the insight to share. Toffoli got candid during an interview on the Spittin' Chicklets podcast.
Sutter's Style

If you didn't know, the Flames practice at the Saddledome. They don't really have a rink dedicated to practice, but when the Saddledome isn't available, they go to Winsport, in the west side of the city. Toffoli recalled that Sutter used to threaten his players to go to Winsport if they played poorly. «But we'd have a bad game or a bad first period,» recalled Toffoli. «During the game, he'd be walking back and forth mumbling I guess we have to go to Winsport tomorrow. You guys want to go practice at Winsport.' It's only the first period. It's 0-0. We have like 15 shots and they have 3, and he's chirping guys on the bench, I guess we have to go to Winsport tomorrow' He also talked about Sutter's mind games with the goaltenders: «It'd be 0-0, and he'd come in and tell Vladdy, [Dan] Vladar, to get ready to go in,» said Toffoli. «We're looking. It's 0-0. Oh Marky's not ready to play tonight.' We're looking, we're like, there's a reason it's 0-0, he has 10 saves. We haven't touched the puck this whole period. Little things like that. As you said, it's all mind games. He's just trying to get guys going. I guess it happened in LA too. It just started to wear on guys and the change happened.» Needless to say that Sutter's style is outdated and isn't welcomed in the NHL anymore. Unless he changes, don't expect him to come back in the League.

As reported on Markerzone - Toffoli Reveals More Shocking Details on Darryl Sutter
