Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin is currently playing the final games of his five-season deal, which he signed in 2017 at an annual average of $5.5 million per season.

Given that he is in his final miles in a Tricolore uniform, his future continues to draw plenty of reaction from the club's fans.

On the one hand, some say it would be best to let him go, while others believe the organization should give him another chance, following his recent good streak, with a cheaper contract to get a better foothold in the payroll.

In connection with his good performance lately, Drouin recently spoke out on the subject:

"I see the light at the end of the tunnel (...) I want to be part of that."

- Drouin on the end of the season and on working with to Martin St-Louis in the future.

To summarize, during a recent press briefing, the 27-year-old Quebecer clearly opened the door to a return to Montreal next year, should there be interest from management.

The number 27 loves to play for Martin St-Louis, he has never hidden it. He even admitted that he wanted to be part of the rebuilding of the club, wishing to be part of the solution for the return of the Habs.

In connection with Drouin's statement, the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin brought up a very interesting suggestion for both parties. With 20 points in his last 26 games, Drouin could be an interesting element in the team's rebuilding.

"Jonathan Drouin has 16 points in his last 21 games. If he's willing to sign a 1-year contract at an AAV around $1.5-2M, it's definitely a tempting bet for the CH!

One decent season and bang, one more asset to trade at the 2024 deadline!"

- Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

This suggestion is causing a lot of reactions, but it must be said that such an opportunity, from the perspective that he would like to stay in Montreal, could become very profitable for the Habs.

Would you sign Jonathan Drouin in the short term at an average of $1.5 to $2 million per year?

A file that will be followed in the coming months.
