Today the NHL Department of Player Safety has officially handed down significant punishments to both Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers.

Yesterday the NHL announced that both Connor McDavid and Tyler Myers would have supplemental hearings after being ejected in the heated game between the Oilers and Canucks.

With the hearings for each player wrapping up earlier this afternoon, the Department of Player Safety took some time to deliberate and has now handed down its verdict.

According to an announcement from the NHL, both McDavid and Myers have been suspended three games each for their actions on Saturday.

While it was expected that both players would be suspended by the NHL three games is significantly more severe than many thought the punishment would be.

Fans furious as Connor McDavid receives a three-game suspension

Many fans were expecting McDavid's punishment to be less severe than the one that Myers got due to the circumstances that led to both incidents.

Generally, suspensions of this length are handed down to players who have a history of dangerous conduct which in the cases of both McDavid and Myers barely applies as over their thousand plus game careers they each only have three combined suspension

This makes the ruling by the NHL Department of Player Safety all the more puzzling.

Regardless the NHL's Department of Player Safety did not agree and now both the Oilers and Canucks will be without key players going forward.

Of course, the Oilers will likely feel a bigger impact losing out on McDavid who many consider to be the best player in the NHL.

Now all eyes will be on both teams to see if either player ends up challenging their suspension to try and get it reduced.
