The Pittsburgh Penguins have shockingly placed Jesse Puljujarvi, a former Oilers 4th-overall pick, on waivers today to terminate his contract.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were hoping that the addition of winger Jesse Puljujarvi would have been a perfect fit.

The former fourth-overall pick of the Edmonton Oilers didn't pan out back in the day with the Oilers, and after double hip surgery, the Penguins gave him a bunch of chances to break into their top-nine forward group, which once again did not work out.

For this reason, the team has placed him on unconditional waivers today with the purpose of terminating his contract.

The 26-year-old winger will be free to sign with any other NHL team or with another league entirely once he clears waivers, should he go unclaimed.

A new home would be his fourth NHL franchise if he were to get a new contract for the remainder of the year.

There are likely to be teams interested in Puljujarvi and willing to gamble on him. After all, he's the typical power forward in today's NHL. He's big, standing at 6'4 and weighing just over 215 pounds.

He has played in 26 NHL games with the Pens this season, tallying just three goals and six assists for nine points. Last year, he played in 22 games with the team and had very similar stats, with three goals and four points in those contests.

Utah places Vladislav Kolyachonok on waivers as well

There has also been a second waiver move today, as the Utah Hockey Club has placed Vladislav Kolyachonok on waivers to assign him to the AHL.

We will know in less than 24 hours if any of these players are claimed by other NHL teams.
