Whether or not Elias Pettersson would re-sign with the team has been a question this season. The superstar forward has had concerns with the team, including the viability of their long-term success. Now things are starting to heat up as we approach the trade deadline. NHL insider with connections to the team Rick Dhaliwal has reported that a trade may be very possible.




While the insider says he has no specific information about Pettersson wanting out, he also has not heard of him coming close to signing an extension with the team. Pettersson will become a restricted free agent at the end of next season.

Elliotte Friedman Discusses Possible Pettersson Trade

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman joined Dhaliwal on his show this morning to discuss Pettersson's status with the team. He noted how the team is good enough to win a Stanley Cup as soon as this season and that the forward will likely make a decision over the summer.



The fact that the team is good this year certainly helps the Canucks. After all, other reporters have noted how the Swedish superstar is focused on winning. David Pagnotta cited this as a reason why he hasn't engaged in contract negotiations so far.


Given how good the team is this year, it would seem likely that Pettersson will re-sign over the summer. We will just have to cross that bridge when we get to it.
