Today just hours after being traded former New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba revealed he felt forced to accept a trade away from the team.

Earlier today the NHL world was shaken when Trouba was traded by the New York Rangers to the Anaheim Ducks for Urho Vaakanainen a 4th round pick.

The trade was one that had been coming for a long time after tension built up over the summer with Trouba at the time blocking several trades to leave New York.

He instead wanted to stay with the Rangers and his wife who was pursuing her career as a doctor.

After nearly 4 months of tension and frustration between the two sides, a deal was reached to send Trouba to Anaheim and now he has spoken out about the situation and the lack of courtesy shown by the Rangers.

Jacob Trouba sounds off on the New York Rangers after messy trade situation

In a new interview after being acquired by the Anaheim Ducks Trouba was asked about how things ended in New York and what ultimately led to the trade.

According to Trouba himself, the New York Rangers threatened him and gave him an ultimatum either be placed on waivers or accept a trade to Anaheim.

He continued and elaborated on what went so wrong with the Rangers confirming that they made him choose between his career and his family and he chose family.

I was put in a position this summer to decide between my career and my family. I think I chose my family and I would choose my family 100 times over again.

Trouba also admitted that the public nature of the entire trade saga and the Rangers' handling of it made it tough for him to perform and be a leader for an organization that clearly had lost faith in him

It made it difficult to play after it went public with that hanging over everything. I was pretty open with the leadership group and the team leading was a little bit harder in that situation with things being in the public.

While Trouba is trying to take the high road here it is clear that there is some frustration and resentment toward GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers for how they decided to handle the relationship and its ultimate ending.

Now Trouba will head to Anaheim where he will once again be called on to be a leader this time with a much younger group looking to find their way towards the playoffs and establishing a winning culture.
