The Vancouver Canucks recently brought on Phil Kessel on a tryout-type agreement. Today we got a major update on his future with the team.

Dhaliwal Believes Canucks Will Sign Kessel

Rick Dhaliwal, an NHL insider covering the Vancouver Canucks, is often correct when it comes to rumors surrounding the team. Today, fans of NHL legend Phil Kessel will be glad to hear that he believes the Canucks will sign the 36-year-old three-time Stanley Cup champion.

"All sides want this to end with a signing.."

@DhaliwalSports updates what he is hearing with Phil Kessel and also if the #Canucks are still kicking tires on Jake Guentzel.

Kessel Invited To Practice With Abbotsford Canucks

Kessel joined the Abbotsford Canucks on the AHL a couple of weeks ago to workout with the team while the big club assesses his abilities and fit for the team. Considering the recent update from Dhaliwal, it seems like things have gone well.

Kessel has not actually played in any games for Abbotsford, but he remains in game shape and has been working out and practicing with the team. As such, the winger could potentially be one of Vancouver's trade deadline acquisitions. At this point in his career, he doesn't figure to be a huge part of the team, but his love for the sport has kept him eager to play again, even in a minor role.
