A new report has emerged online indicating that Ron MacLean's future with Sportsnet may be in jeopardy following the firing of Jeff Marek. Marek was infamously let go earlier this summer by Sportsnet after reports emerged that he was leaking picks before they were announced. Notably, this kind of thing happens all the time though. Furthermore, Marek did not do anything illegal as betting on the draft had already closed. There was no way for anyone to benefit financially from learning the information he was sharing early. Many fans pointed to the fact that Frank Seravalli leaked the entire Seattle Kraken expansion draft without any consequences as a defense for Marek. Remember when @frank_seravalli leaked the entire Seattle expansion draft? A league that shoves gambling down our throats every broadcast is worried someone leaked info for gambling purposes, even though there's no proof of that. @JeffMarek is going to be missed.

That being said, what is done is done, and Marek will not be returning to Sportsnet. The beloved NHL insider left a post on X, thanking his fans and Sportsnet for their support over the years. Firstly, thanks for the outpouring of kinds words on Twitter/X. It really means the world to me. After 13 great years at Sportsnet, I'm moving on. It's been an incredible journey and I'm thankful to have worked alongside so many great people and played a role in bringing sports and hockey news to fans across Canada and the world. More to come soon. - Jeff

Unfortunately for Sportsnet, it has been reported that Marek's firing came at a bad time as the company is preparing for a big wave of layoffs this summer. However, it is not clear if any other big names with the network will be involved in this. While NOT connected AT ALL it appears that Jeff Marek's exit from Rogers SN could have come just ahead of what sounds like another round of changes/cuts/layoffs for the media company.

One name that has been floated is Ron MacLean, host of Hockey Night in Canada. When asked about his future, Jonah Siegel seemed to indicate that he could be safe... for now. The NHL's broadcasting deal with Rodgers is up in two years, and Siegel hinted that that is when MacLean may be cut loose. Why make that change before the NHL Rogers deal is up in two years?

We will just have to hang tight and see what happens this summer in regards to the Sportsnet layoffs. Will MacLean be among those let go? Stay tuned to find out.
